Greller was a member of the United States water polo team at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. He later became active in the sport as an administrator, managing the 1956 US Olympic team. He emphasized that the US had to learn to play in larger outdoor pools, rather than the small indoor pools in which the sport was usually held in the United States. Greller is a member of the US Water Polo Hall of Fame.
