Biography

Ralph Whitney swam for the El Segundo Swim Club and El Camino College, after starting out playing water polo at El Segundo High School, graduating in 1954. He worked as a fireman at the time of the 1964 Olympics. Whitney moved away from California but in 1990 returned with his wife to the Santa Barbara area where they opened Whitney Ranch, growing lemons, avocados, and blueberries. The ranch also serves as a home to many bee hives used by the almond growers in the central San Joaquin Valley.
