Weightlifter Josef Tauchner was an Austrian lightweight who participated in three Olympic Games: Helsinki 1952, Melbourne 1956, and Roma 1960. His tenth place in 1960 was his best Olympic result. He was more successful at the World Championships, winning the bronze medal in 1954. At European Championships Tauchner added more medals with silvers in 1951, 1954, and 1956, and bronzes in 1955 and 1958. He was the first Austrian weightlifter to reach world class level after World War II. Domestically, he won 12 national titles.
