Irish-born Augustine Cummins came from the Poplar region of London and was a member of the nearby Limehouse Weightlifting Club. He was the one-time 10st (63.5kg) champion of Britain and also claimed a world record for the two-handed dead lift of 480lbs (218kg). Cummins was an instructor at the Limehouse Club, and also a weightlifting judge.
