Weightlifter Manfred Rieger competed at three consecutive Olympic Summer Games: 1964 as a member of the mixed German team at Tokyo, and then in 1968 and 1972 representing East Germany at Mexico City and München. He finished eleventh and fourth as a heavyweight, and then in the super-heavyweight at München he placed fifth. Rieger won four bronze medals at the Europeans (1966, 1968, 1969, 1970), and won seven East German titles.
