Michael Ah Matt grew up in Darwin in Northern Territory and was the first Aboriginal Australian to play for them at the Olympics in basketball, which he did in 1964. He played most of his club career in Adelaide, with South Adelaide BC. Ah Matt was inducted into the Basketball Australia Hall of Fame and the Aboriginal and Islander Sports Hall of Fame. His son, Shane, later played basketball in the USA for Metro State University in Denver, helping them win the 2000 NCAA D-2 title.
