Jos Alzin was long regarded as the first Olympic medal winner from Luxembourg until it was discovered that the winner of the marathon at the Games in Paris in 1900, Michel Théato, was born in Luxembourg. Alzin is said to have rejected his silver medal at Antwerp in 1920 after his appeal against an attempt by the eventual winner, Fillipo Bottino from Italy, was rejected. In 1924 he took part in the heavyweight division again, but did not finish. The same year he set an unlimited press world record, lifting 120 kg.
