Afonso Évora was one of players on the Brazilian team that won its the country’s Olympic basketball medal. At London in 1948, the squad was only defeated by France, the eventual silver medallists. Évora had also played for the national side at the 1947 South American Championships, where Brazil placed second to Uruguay. Nationally, he played for Flamengo. With the Rio de Janeiro side, he won 10 regional titles, and three national championships.
