Biography

Portuguese weightlifter Raul Diniz competed in the sport for more than a decade, including representing his country at three Olympic Games. Diniz made his Olympic début at the 1972 Games in München, finishing 21st in the bantamweight class. After missing the Montréal Games, he returned to the Olympics in Moskva in 1980. Now competing in the flyweight, he finished 13th overall with a total of 197.5 kg. Diniz competed in his third and final Olympics at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, once again as a flyweight. After lifting 82.5 kg in the snatch element, he failed to provide a valid lift in the clean & jerk. During his career he was awarded with the Nobre Guedes Olympic Medal by the Portuguese Olympic Committee.
