Wes Barnett was a two-time Olympic weightlifter who attended college at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. In 1990 he was US Junior Champion and the National Collegiate Champion in the 90 kg class. He also won three medals at the Pan American Games, gold in 1995, silver in 1991, and bronze in 1999. At the 1997 World Championships Barnett finished second in clean-and-jerk and won a bronze medal in the total.
Barnett later went into sports administration. He served as a Drug Control Administrator with the US Olympic Committee from 1997-2000, then helped start the USOC Sports Partnership from 2000-02. He served as Executive Director of USA Weightlifting from 2002-07, and then returned to an executive role with the US Olympic Committee.
