Tom Gough competed in weightlifting at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, finishing 14th in the 91 kg class. Gough won a bronze medal at the 1995 Pan American Games. He was US Champion in 1995-98 and 2000. When he competed at Atlanta, he was a US Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton. He was trained by his father, Steve Gough, who was a top lifter in the 1960s and later one of the best weightlifting coaches in the US.
