Ibrahim El-Sayed started representing Egypt abroad in wrestling in the early 1960s, winning a silver medal in the freestyle, bantamweight category at the 1963 Mediterranean Games. He captured his first major international title at the 1965 Arab Games and from then on competed primarily in the Greco-Roman style, save for a freestyle bronze medal at the 1971 Mediterranean Games. He competed at the 1966 World Championships and the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, being eliminated in round five of the latter. He was also African Champion in 1969 and 1971, and retired from active competition shortly after his victory in the latter.
