Friedrich Wilhelm Braun, commonly known as “Fritz”, was a Brazilian basketball player who represented the national team during the 1960s. Fritz was 17-years-old when he joined Rio Claro and later transferred to Fluminense where he won the Rio de Janeiro championship. He was soon called up to the national team, playing in two major international tournaments that were hosted in Brazil in 1963, winning gold at the World Championships and silver at the Pan American Games. One year later Fritz competed at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics where the team won bronze after losing their medal match to the Soviet Union. Fritz continued to compete domestically, with his last matches played in 1972 with XV de Piracicaba.
