Arvo Kangas started Greco-Roman wrestling for Töölön Vesa and later changed to HAK, both in Helsinki. He placed fourth at the unofficial World Championships in 1911, which earned him a place in the team for the 1912 Olympics. There, he advanced in the featherweight to round six but lost to compatriot and future gold medal winner Kaarlo Koskelo by fall after six minutes.
Kangas reappears in the records not before 1921, when he placed third at the Finnish Championships and fifth at the unofficial World Championships. He worked for the Crichton-Vulcan shipyard in Turku.
