The pinnacle of Carlos Bru’s career as a basketball player came at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where Mexico won one of its matches and lost two in the round robin pool and was eliminated from the tournament. He found much more success on the coaching and administrative side of the sport, becoming one of the pioneers in expanding basketball in his home country. A businessman by career and notable patron of sport, he founded the TELEPAR team, which raised his profile on the national scene, and in 1975 coached Veracruz to a national championship. This led to his selection as head coach of the Mexican delegation to the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where the nation placed 10th overall.
