Kalle Westerlund came from a sporting family, as his brothers Edvard and Emil were also internationally known wrestlers, Edvard winning Olympic Greco-Roman middleweight gold in 1924 and Emil competing at both the 1912 and 1920 Olympics. The high point of Westerlund’s career was probably the 1924 Olympics, where he won bronze in the Greco-Roman lightweight class. Westerlund also finished fourth in Greco-Roman lightweight at the 1921 World Championships, won the Nordic title in 1925 and his only Finnish title in 1927 in Greco-Roman middleweight. After finishing his sporting career, Westerlund worked as a Finnish Presidential State Car chauffeur for 36 years, serving under seven different presidents.
