Biography

Don Irvine won the first of eight British freestyle wrestling titles in 1946, when he captured the welterweight crown. He then went on to compete in that year’s European Championships at Stockholm. Irvine won the British welterweight title five consecutive years 1946-50 and again in 1952. He won the middleweight and light-heavyweight titles in 1949 and 1951 respectively. He was the older brother of fellow Olympian Ken who, like Don, competed at both the 1948 and 1952 Olympics.
