Biography

Loreto Carbonell was a forward on the Philippine basketball team at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Carbonnell played in college at San Beda, and later coached the team, helping them win two Filipino NCAA titles. While in college, he scored 48 points in a game in 1956, then an NCAA scoring record. Carbonell also competed at the 1958 Asian Games and the 1959 World Championships. He later coached basketball, not just at his alma mater, but in the Philippine Basketball Association, where in 1984 he led the Beer Hausen Brewmasters to the PBA finals, where they lost to Great Taste.
