Biography
West German freestyle wrestler Jörg Helmdach finished fifth in the featherweight class at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He also placed fifth at the Europeans the same year. Nationally, he was on the podium eight times, winning titles in 1986, 1988, and 1990.
Helmdach later turned to coaching and graduated from the Deutsche Sporthochschule in Köln. From 2006-08 he was National Chief Coach with the freestyle wrestlers. He then became sports director of the Austrian Wrestling Association.
