At the beginning of the 1920s he went abroad and, after two or three years of globetrotting, settled down in Paris, where he won several major competitions, including the 1924 Paris City Championship, which led to his being named to the 1924 Hungarian Olympic team, under the name of Kónyi. After the Olympics he lived in France and Germany, then moved back to Hungary in 1930, where he became a professional wrestler.
