Ken Davis went to the small school of Georgetown College in Kentucky. He became their greatest player, scoring 3,003 points in four years there and making NAIA All-America three straight years. After graduation in 1971, Davis continued to play mainly with the Marathon Oil AAU team. However he played for the US team at the 1971 Pan American Games, although they did not medal.
Davis was a member of the ill-fated 1972 Olympic basketball team that lost the gold medal in a controversial decision, and refused to accept the silver medals. There has been some lobbying in the 1990s that the U.S. players should finally accept the silver medals. Davis has refused to support this, and has had it written into his will that no member of his family is ever to accept a silver medal in basketball from the 1972 Olympic Games.
