Biography

Carl Erik Lund was born in Göteborg where he competed for Örgryte IS (until 1907) and for IFK as a wrestler and football player. His profession was construction worker. In wrestling, he typically competed in the lightweight division. Nevertheless, he claimed his first Swedish Championship in 1904, when there was yet only one (open) category. In 1907 and 1908, two more national titles followed in the lightweight, the latter already for IFK.

His first Olympics came in 1908, when he had a bye in round one and then lost to Nikolay Orlov from Russia. In Stockholm in 1912, Lund wrestled in the lightweight division again and profited from a walkover and a bye, which brought him to round seven, where both he and his opponent, the Hungarian [Ödön Radvany], were disqualified due to passivity after an hour of wrestling.

Carl Erik was also successful in soccer, winning the Swedish Championships with Örgryte IS in 1902 and 1904-06. He made his debut in IFK in the 1907 season and spent four seasons in IFK Göteborg’s A-team winning the national championship in 1908 on the position of inside-right. In the final against IFK Uppsala, he scored one goal. He was the brother of Valdus and non-Olympian Harald Lund (1888-1950), who both played for IFK’s A-side.
