Erik Öberg wrestled there for the IK Amatören in his hometown Varberg. At the 1912 Olympics, he placed fifth in the featherweight (< 60 kg) division. On July 13th, he had to take on three Finnish wrestlers on just one day. After defeating Ville Lehmusvirta and Lauri Haapanen, both by decision, he was thrown by future bronze medalist Otto Lasanen after additional 50 minutes of wrestling. One year later, Öberg took his only Swedish Championship title, again in the featherweight. He also was a member of IK Amatören’s football team. He died in 1924, only 35-years-old.
