Aslanbek Fidarov

Aslanbek Fidarov began wrestling in Vladikavkaz, but with the collapse of the Soviet Union, he switched allegiance to Ukraine. Fidarov won a bronze medal at the 1994 European Wrestling Championships in Roma and a gold medal at the 1995 European Wrestling Championships in Freiburg im Breisgau. At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, he participated in two bouts but lost both to athletes from former Soviet republics – Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. At all three freestyle tournaments he competed at 57 kg.

After graduation, Fidarov returned to Respublika Severnaya Osetiya-Alaniya and headed the Committee on Youth Policy, Physical Culture and Sports for the city of Vladikavkaz. In December 2020 he died after contracting COVID-19.
