Savkuz Dzarasov took up wrestling in 1950 and soon rose to be one of the top Soviet freestyle heavyweight wrestlers of the 1950s.In 1952 Dzarasov won his first medal, silver, at the Soviet Championships. In addition to his 1952 silver, Dzarasov was Soviet Champion in 1958 and 1959, won silver at the Soviet Championships in 1961 and bronze in 1960. Internationally, Dzarasov represented the Soviet Union at two major international tournaments, the 1959 World Championships and the 1960 Olympic Games, winning bronze at both.
