Biography

Vladimir Popov took up wrestling in 1973 and made the Soviet national team in 1986. In addition to his 1988 Olympic bronze, Popov, who wrestled as a Greco-Roman light-heavyweight his entire career, was 1987 World Champion and 1987 and 1989 European Champion. He also won the 1986 World Cup and was Soviet Champion in 1987-88. Popov retired from sports after the fall of the Soviet Union and later worked as a wrestling coach in Sweden and Australia.
