Biography

Georgian Giorgi Skhirt’ladze was one of the world’s top middleweight freestylers in the 1950s. During his career, Skhirt’ladze competed in four major international tournaments and medaled on all four occasions. He won Olympic bronze in 1956 and silver in 1960 and won the World title in 1959, placing second in 1957. Domestically, Skhirt’ladze won the Soviet title four times (1954, 1956-57, 1960), placing second in 1953, 1958-59 and third in 1955.
