Charles Clapper represented the Chicago Central YMCA at the 1904 Olympics. He won one match by a fall before being thrown by eventual champion, Ben Bradshaw, in the second round. In a match for third place, Clapper threw Frederick Ferguson in 54 seconds to win the bronze medal. Clapper also won the 1906 AAU title at 145 lbs.
