Howard George came from Watertown, New York and after graduating from high school there, enlisted in the US Marines in 1952. He served one tour of Korea and two tours of Vietnam, earning several awards, including a Purple Heart, Conspicuous Service Cross, Navy Achievement Medal, and a Vietnamese Campaign Medal with 7 stars. While in the Marines he played on their football, wrestling, and judo teams.
After leaving the service in the 1970s George returned to the Watertown area, and became a criminal investigator for the Office of the Jefferson County District Attorney. In 1977 he opened his own Private Investigation Agency, which was later taken over by his son. Howard George worked many different jobs, running the Long Bow Archery Shop, working for UPS, and was a security director at Salmon Run Mall and the House of the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the town of Watertown justice of the peace for 18 years, performing many weddings. He founded the Northern New York Judo Jujitsu and Wrestling Club, which later trained young men for MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).
