Jay Holt competed for the San Francisco Rowing Club. He was AAU champion in 1954 in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. Holt was a four-time Far West AAU champion, including in 1956. He won the 1956 Olympic Trials in Greco-Roman. At the time of the 1956 Olympics, Holt was an office worker.
