William S. Jernigan wrestled for Oklahoma A&M University (now Oklahoma State), graduating in 1950, and making All-American in both 1947 and 1948, losing in the final of the 1947 NCAA flyweight class. He had competed in high school for Will Rogers High School in Tulsa Oklahoma. He eventually settled with his wife in Wagoner, Oklahoma, where he lived at the time of his death.
