Biography

George Retzer was from Pennsylvania but lived in California since the age of four, where he was a life member of the Los Angeles Athletic Club. Retzer won several Pacific Coast Championships in wrestling. Before competing in the featherweight at the Stockholm Olympics, he injured his knee and had to withdraw after losing his first bout. He later attended the 1932 and every Olympics from 1956 to 1972. He died in a nursing home in Arcadia, California. In 2020, he was posthumously inducted into the California Wrestling Hall of Fame.
