After graduating from Eckerd College in 1987 Courtenay Becker-Dey started windsurfing, but switched to the Europe Class in 1990. In 1992 she crewed as a navigator on America3’s Mighty Mary in the America’s Cup Trials. After winning a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics in the Europe Class, Becker-Dey concentrated on the 470 Class for the next few years but returned to Europes to make the 2000 Olympic team, after she finished second in the 2000 470 Olympic Trials, held in late 1999. At the World Championships, Becker-Dey was fourth in the Laser in 1987, and second in 1989 in Europe Class.
Becker-Dey received the Rolex US Yachtswomen of the Year Award in both 1990 and 1996. She was inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame in 1996.
