Biography

Larysa Moskalenko competed at two Olympics, winning a bronze medal in 1988 in the two-person dinghy (470 class) alongside Iryna Chunykhovska. Moskalenko returned in 1992 in Barcelona, sailing with Olena Pakholchyk, where they just missed a medal, placing fourth in the same event. With Pakholchyk, Moskalenko also won silver at the 1991 World Championships and another silver at the 1991 European Championships. A native Ukrainian, she competed for the Soviet Union and Unified Team at the Olympics, but moved to Palermo, Sicily in 1993, where she bought the yacht rental company, Sicily Rent Boat.

In late 2013 Moskalenko made headlines of a sordid variety, when she was arrested along with an international ring of ex-special forces soldiers, for their alleged involvement in a child kidnapping ring. The group allegedly allegedly kidnapped children involved in custody battles and used high-speed boats and a base in Sicily to smuggle the children across Europe.
