Biography

Jim Forbes, who played for the US team at the 1971 Pan American Games, although they did not medal, was not originally selected to be a member of the 1972 Olympic team but was added to the squad after John Brown came down with an injury. Forbes was a 6-8 (2.03) forward. Although drafted by the Chicago Bulls, Forbes never played in the NBA.

He returned to his alma mater of UTEP as an assistant coach before becoming a successful high school basketball coach in Texas, winning over 700 games. His #50 jersey was retired by his high school, Bel Air High School, and Riverside HS, where he coached from 1984-2004, named their gym after him. Forbes was inducted into the UTEP Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.
