Biography

Michel Briand was a French sailor who was born in La Rochelle and as a teenager was part of the French Resistance. He was part of the committee that honoured the memory of Léonce Vieljeux, a French colonel in the reserve army who was executed by the Nazis in 1944. Briand competed at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics in the three- person keelboat (Dragon class) with the team finishing in eighth place. In 1973 he won the Half-Ton Cup sailing competition in Denmark.
