John Clarke of Toronto’s Royal Canadian Yacht Club won bronze in the Finn class at the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg before representing his country at the 1972 Olympics in München in the same event, finishing 20th.
Born in England, Clarke initially worked as an engineer before earning his DDS degree and establishing a dental practice on St. Clair Avenue in Toronto. He worked in the profession for 50 years before his retirement. His son, Richard later went on to represent Canada at three Olympics in the same event as his father, 1996, 2000 and 2004.
