William Davidson was one of the 10 crew members aboard Sir Charles McIver’s Mouchette, which won the silver medal in the 12-metre class at the 1908 Olympics. Like many of the crew, he was a member of the Royal Mersey Yacht Club, which he served as honorary secretary and treasurer for over 30 years. Davidson was the club’s secretary in 1910 when King Edward VII donated the Royal Cup to them to be contested at their annual regatta. In addition to organising club races, Davidson organised many racing events at different venues around the north-west of England. A chartered accountant by profession, he was a partner in the firm of Deane and Davidson, and also acted as an auditor to other nearby yacht clubs.
