Biography

Center Hansi Gnad was on the German basketball squad that finished seventh at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics after winning the classification match versus Puerto Rico, 96-86. In total, he earned 181 international caps and was European Champion in 1993. He was married to handball player Silke Fittinger.

On the club level, Gnad played with BSC Saturn Köln (until 1989), BG Steiner Bayreuth (1989-90), Billy Desio (Italy, 1990-93), ALBA Berlin (1993-94), Brandt Hagen (1994-95, 2001-03), TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen (1995-97, 1999-2001), Mash/Müller Verona (Italy, 1997-99), and Real Madrid (Spain, 1999). Gnad earned three German Championships in 1987-88, and 1996. In 1998 he also won the Korać-Cup with Mash/Müller Verona.

Gnad later turned to coaching and worked with Bayer Giants Leverkusen and Giants Düsseldorf. He also had several stages with the German Basketball Federation as an assistant coach and participated in this job at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
