Carlos Echevarria graduated from Tufts College and then earned an MBA from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Echevarria rowed crew in high school but then took up sailing. In 1951 he was on the world champion crew in the Lightning class. In 1955 he crewed for Eugene Walet, III’s Lightning crew at the Pan American championships. Echevarria was on the crew that won the 600-mile ocean race from Buenos Aires to Mar del Plata, Argentina in 1955.
