West German sailor Wolfgang Elsner was one of the crew in the 6 metres class that finished 10th at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. He was a member of the Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee in Berlin. Later he became president of the West German Olympic Sailing Committee, and was involved in the selection of the East or West German sailors for the mixed German teams in 1956-64, and then for the West German teams in 1968 and 1972. Elsner was a physician by profession.
