Ricardo González was one of the top South American basketball players in the late-1940s and early-1950s. The spoils of his 50 appearances for the Argentine national team include a gold medal at the 1950 World Championships, silver at the 1951 and 1955 Pan American Games, and a fourth-place finish at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He also competed at the 1948 London Games, where Argentina placed 15th among 23 nations in the tournament. Domestically he spent most of his career, until he was forced to retire in 1956 for political reasons, with Sportivo Palermo, but also won an Argentine Championship with Capital Federal in 1947. In 1980 he was named one of the five best basketball players in Argentina’s history, and in 2009 was made a member of the FIBA Hall of Fame.
