Starting from 1967, Tamás Holovits sailed in the colors of Bp. Spartacus and then MTK. He competed in the Star category, winning a total of ten Hungarian championships, four of which with his brother, György, with whom he competed until 1987. In 1978, Tamás Holovits was chosen as the sailor of the year. Between 1978 and 1988 he was a member of the national team. His greatest success was in 1980, at the Moskva Olympics, when he finished 10th in the Star. He finished third in the Friendship Competition in Tallinn, which was organized because of the 1984 Olympic boycott.
Between 1994 and 1998 he was a municipal representative in his hometown, and became the city’s first honorary citizen. He did a lot to start sailing and rowing life in Balatonföldvár.
