Mohamed Habib was a basketball player with the Egyptian Army team and helped them win several military championships during his time with the squad. Although he was into his 30s at the time, he was selected to represented his country in the basketball tournament at the 1948 London Olympics. There, Egypt lost four of its five matches in the preliminary round and was defeated by Italy in the classification round to place 19th overall. Habib saw playing time in three of the team’s six games. He retired shortly thereafter and took to coaching, serving most prominently at the head coach of the Egyptian military team, where he had a lifelong career as an officer.
