George Hallaq was a member of the inaugural Iraqi delegation to the Olympics in 1948, where he competed in the basketball tournament at the London Games. In the preliminary round, Iraq lost all five of its games and was eliminated from contention; Hanna played in all of the matches. He later moved to the United States and, under the name John Hanna Hallaq, earned business degrees from Weber State College in Utah, the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Washington. His dissertation title at Washington was “An Analysis of the Development of Original Brand Loyalty for Nondurable Consumer Products”. He then had a lengthy career as a professor at the University of Idaho, before retiring in 1996.
