Percy Knowles competed in three different sailing classes across four editions of the Olympics – 1960 through 1972 – with a best finish of fifth in the Star class in 1968, alongside his stepbrother Durward Knowles, who competed at a total of eight Olympics in this class and won two medals. Although Percy was less successful, three of his descendants also competed at the Games. His sons Andy and Bruce swam at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, while his grandson Jeremy was a swimmer in 2000, 2004, and 2008. Percy himself was a swimmer, and he competed in masters-level swimming into his 80s, alongside his son Andy. By career Percy was a businessman, and he also served as Commodore of the Nassau Yacht Club.
