Claude Kohler attended Tulane University, where he was a sailor and a champion table tennis player. During the Korean War, Kohler had been in the US Navy as a pilot, where he was considered an “all-sport star.” After his military service, he earned an MBA degree from Tulane.
Kohler represented the Southern Yacht Club and the Bay Waveland Yacht Club. He sailed in the Dragon class at the 1960 Olympics along with Gene Walet, III and Allen McClure. Kohler worked as an insurance salesman as his career, mostly with Home Life.
