Ernst Krogius was one of the founders of the Finnish Olympic Committee and served as its President from 1919-29. His primary sport was yachting, as he won a bronze medal in the 12-metre class at the 1912 Olympics, served as President of the Finnish Yachting Association (1906-17), and helped to found the International Yacht Racing Union in 1907. Krogius was also President of the Finnish Gymnastic Federation. He was co-opted onto IOC in March 1920 and served until August 1948, when he resigned, only to be named one of the first three IOC Honorary Members.
