Emil Lindh was an actor at the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki for 50 years and was also involved in the administration of the Swedish Theatre’s pension fund. He had received his training from 1885-87 at the August Fredrik Arppe’s drama school. Occasionally, he worked with Arppe’s opera company and toured with the company in 1890-94. He appeared in eight Finnish films between 1923 and 1932. His typical role was that of a simple honourable man.
Lindh was a member of the crew of the Finnish boat “Lucky Girl” in the 8 metres class at the 1912 Olympic Games. After placing fifth and second in the first two races, the boat lost the match-race for second place against the Swedish yacht “Sans Atout” by one minute. The crew had to settle for bronze.
Emil Lindh was married to dancer and actress Agnes Mathilda Lindh (1872–1952, née Gerasimovitsch). His son Tor-Kristian was an Olympian in sailing at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. His other sons Nils-Åke and Pehr-Hakon also competed in sailing. Nils was also a Finnish boxing champion.
