West German sailor Axel May participated in three Olympic sailing regattas at Acapulco in 1968 in the Dragon class, and in 1976 at Kingston and 1984 at Long Beach, both in the Soling class. He placed seventh, sixth and eighth, respectively. In 1969 and 1974 he won two West German national titles and in 1973 he earned a silver medal at the World Championships.
May later became a lawyer and married Anette Quandt, one of the daughters of industrial magnate Herbert Quandt. His mother Magda was the second wife of Nazi leader Joseph Goebbels, propaganda minister in Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich. May later maintained the assets of the Quandt family.
